A busy week for upgrades!
WebServer Updates
Last night, we went through a major upgrade and migration. Earlier this year, we moved to new servers, and new hosting, with so much spare room, I thought it would be years before we upgraded again.
Silly Me!
Last night, we went through a flawless upgrade with only 2 minutes of downtime around 12:30 in the morning to more CPU power, more RAM, and more Hard Drive Storage.
This time, its a software update, not a server upgrade.
WordPress Updates
Most of you have sites written on WordPress.
WordPress has just released their latest major update, version 4.4
We will be upgrading all sites and testing for compatibilities.
This updates will begin Wednesday for a few clients, and continue through Saturday so that we have opportunity to make extra backups before upgrading, and have time to test each site.
One of the things we are most looking forward to is an improvement in making images responsive (mobile friendly). Google search is now over 1/2 mobile, and across all of our clients, total mobile traffic has almost past 40%. Any improvement in Responsive design from WordPress is REALLY looked forward to.
Our experience with WordPress updates is that they are incredibly stable, but some plugins don’t catch up quickly, especially the free plugins that abound on the web (which is why we generally like to have paid for plugins even when a comparable application might be available for free).
In the unlikely event that you see an application within your site not functioning properly, please don’t hesitate to send an email so that we can respond to it quickly.
